MSC Introduces Peak Season Surcharge on West Med–North America Trade Starting 23 June 2025

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced a new Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) applicable to container shipments originating in the West Mediterranean and Adriatic and destined for the USA, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas.

Surcharge Targets High-Demand Routes to USA, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean

Effective 23 June 2025 and until further notice, the surcharge will apply to all container types amid strong and sustained market demand across the transatlantic corridor.

  • $500 per 20’ container
  • $700 per 40’ container

Fee Structure: $500 per 20' | $700 per 40'

The surcharge is designed to ensure operational continuity and high service standards as container flows remain elevated throughout the peak season. It covers all equipment types, including reefer and special containers.

CMA CGM announces Peak Season Surcharge from North Europe & Med to LATAM & Caribbean

French shipping company CMA CGM has announced new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) on cargo shipments from North Europe and the Mediterranean to Latin America and the Caribbean.

The cargo shipments from East & West Mediterranean and North Europe—including the Scandinavian and Baltic countries—to the following destinations:

  • South America East Coast
  • South America West Coast
  • Central America East Coast & Caribbean
  • Central AmericaWest Coast & Mexico West Coast
  • Leeward and Windward Islands
  • Guyana and Suriname

This surcharge will not apply to the French West Indies, French Guiana, or Saint Martin shipments.

Effective from 1 June, CMA CGM will apply a peak Season Surcharge of EUR 150 / USD 150 per TEU on all types of cargo transported from North Europe and EUR 300 / USD 300 per TEU for all cargo types shipped from both the East and West Mediterranean.

Hapag-Lloyd announce peak season surcharge from East Asia to North America

After CMA-CGM, German shipping carrier Hapag-Lloyd has also announced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) from East Asia to North America. The peak season surcharge will be effective from 12 May until further notice.



Hapag-Lloyd has added US$1,000 per Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit(TEU) and US$2,000 per Forty-foot Equivalent Unit(FEU) as Peak Season Surcharge (PSS).

East Asia area includes Japan, Republic of Korea, Taiwan (PRC), Hong Kong (PRC), China (PRC), Macau (PRC), Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines, while North America covers United States and Canada.

Hapag-Lloyd Increase Fare, Added Peak Season Surcharges From India & Pakistan To Middle East

German international shipping and container transportation company, Hapag-Lloyd, announced Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo transportation from Nhava Sheva, Kandla and Mundra (India) and Karachi (Pakistan) to Arabian Gulf and Eastern Province Saudi Arabia

The Peak Season Surcharge is applicable for 20’ and 40’ Dry containers and applies to all containers sailing from Nhava Sheva, Kandla, Mundra (India) and Karachi (Pakistan) from July 1, 2024 until further notice.

For Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Kandla (India), the Peak Season Surcharge is USD 100 while for Karachi (Pakistan) it is USD 150 for both 20’ and 40’ Dry containers.

*Arabian Gulf: UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain and Qatar *Eastern Province Saudi Arabia: Dammam, Riyadh and Jubail in Saudi Arabia.
